THE BOY TRAVELLERS was a very popular boys series 125 years ago because of the quality of the writing, the sheer weight of fact and profuse, well-executed engravings which illustrated the book. I believe there were fifteen books in the series. Although shorter on action and longer on dry geographical and cultural fact than the average series book of the time, these books appealed to the older boy who could feel after reading that he might actually have traveled there. They are a great window into travel and the world as it was at the end of the 19th century.

Thomas Wallace Knox (June 26, 1835 - January 6, 1896) was a journalist, author, and world traveler, known primarily for his work as a New York Herald correspondent during the American Civil War. As an author, Knox wrote over 45 books, including a popular series of travel adventure books for boys, The Boy Travellers.

CONDITION:
This hard-cover book is in good, restored condition. It has been rebound and recased into its original cover. TWO PAGES were missing—the front endpaper and the title page and have been REPLACED with FACSIMILES. The spine ends have been restored with new cloth, but the rest of the cover is original with well worn edges and corners. It is a bit soiled and has some spotting, especially on the spine cloth. There is an old inked name and place on the verso of the frontispiece, but otherwise the interior is nice with no other marks, underlining, tears or odor. The paper is toned with age—about average for this book. The hinges and binding are excellent.
