Here is a nice Schieble Coupe in good condition.  Please review the photos closely and judge condition for yourself.  This antique 18" long large steel toy was manufactured in Dayton Ohio during the 1920s.  This example was repainted prior to my ownership, showing scratches, wear, and imperfections throughout.  I initially bought the body of the car as a project, with the intention of refinishing it properly.  I then purchased new reproduction replacement wheels and headlights from Thomas Toy Parts.  I repaired the headlights quite nicely, and mounted the new wheels on new 3/16" axles.  The car rolls freely, and still displays well, but the old repaint does not meet my standards.  The metal underneath the overpaint is in good shape, not rusted or pitted.  The car was originally a beautiful dark navy blue color.  I cant imagine any good reason why someone would paint over a toy of this vintage.  There are some dings on the roof, but overall its a pretty straight car.  There are $100 worth of new parts on this Schieble, and I paid $125 for the car itself, so there is no profit here.  Great candidate for restoration, parts, or display as is... Im a tough critic when it comes to repaints, but the car actually does still look pretty good on a shelf. The price here is as listed, I do not send out watchlist offers.

There are 2 versions of these Schieble Coupes, a more rounded front fender version, and this one, where the front fender radiuses all the way back to the cab.  In my experience, this is the harder to find version, and in my opinion, the better looking style.  This particular example does not have the friction drive flywheel.  I do not know if this was offered as an option, I purchased the car as you see it, minus wheels and headlights.  I have also seen these cars with a thin strip of heavy gauge metal for a front bumper, but this example does NOT have a front bumper.  There are slits in the frame where this bumper would have originally been.  I can make a replacement for the buyer if interested.  I have done my best to share what I have learned about these fine early pressed steel toys, but there may be other details I just don't know about.  Please feel free to reach out if you have more information about the history of Schieble toys, as these are one of my favorite pieces of great American history.
