Description of the original vehicle:In April 1951 Daimler-Benz presented at the International Automobile Fair in Frankfurt the Type 300. Back in 1951, it was the largest and fastest production car in Germany. From the start the model was a favourite of politicians, economists and actors. Federal President Theodor Heuss and Minister of Economic Affairs Ludwig Erhard became chauffeured in the Type 300. But really famous became the model as "Adenauers Mercedes", because Adenauer was the first Federal Chancellor of Germany and he attached great importance to be driven in the Type 300. Nowadays Adenauer's 1955 type 300 is on display at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart.
In August 1957, the Mercedes-Benz 300 D was presented as a updated version to the market. From July of 1958 it was also available as Cabriolet D(amazingly for the 5 year production run ONLY 65 300d Cabriolet D were ever produced).

Technical data of the original vehicle:
  1. 6 cylinder in-line-engine
  2. Inlet manifold petrol injection
  3. Top speed: 165 km/h
  4. Maximum output: 160 hp with 5300 rpm
  5. 3-speed automatic transmission with selection lever on the steering column
