The "Ding Dong School" with Miss Frances
(Frances Horwich) was a TV show that originated in 1952
on WNBQ-TV in Chicago and picked up nationally by NBC
just a year later and was seen by pre-schoolers and their
parents Coast to Coast. It quickly became one of the most
watched morning programs in America, even beating out an
Arthur Godfrey hosted morning show in the same time slot.
"Miss Frances" would ring a bell, (hence the name of the
program) at the beginning of the show and a symbol of that
bell is at the top of this doll trunk.
This Trunk measures 14 1/4" (tall) x 8 1/2" (wide) and 7 1/8"
(deep). It has a plastic handle on top with brass attachments,
brass hinges, and a brass closure.
The Trunk is made of a wooden inner frame with some
type of thick Red textured paper on the surface.
The hand of Miss Frances, the bell, little girl, and the lettering
is all some type of applied flocking as shown in the photo.
The inside is papered with a light tan brown herringbone
design.
The visual condition is as you see it in the photos
provided - well used, but not thrashed and still displays
very nicely. The trunk is nice and clean and does not smell
musty.
The structural condition is excellent, with all sides
solid and no punctures or splitting.
