8-bit Theater was a webcomic by Brian Clevinger (hi) that ran from 2001 to 2009. It was about four murder hobos pretending to be heroes of destiny who were foretold to save the world from a great evil, but it turns out they're the great evil. 

Actually, that's not canonical, just implied over and over. What the hell, it's 2021, you can't stop me, IT'S CANONICAL NOW. Anyway. 8BT was a hit of early 2000s webcomicry, so it was about video games. Superficially, it was about Final Fantasy released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987. But, slightly deeper than superficially, it was about video games as a whole, tabletop gaming, nerd stuff generally, film, history, philosophy, politics, a lot of cartoonish ultra-violence, and thousands of art crimes that made it impossible to ever print.
