"Orbis Terrarum Cognitus Veteribus Graecis et Latinis."

A genuine antique map of the World, taken from Edward Wells's Dionysii Geographia, which was first issued in 1704. There were later editions.

A fascinating little map, showing all that was known of the World at the start of the 18th century. California is depicted as an island, a common mistake in maps at this time, and Australia is sketched in very approximately. So too, of course are the Polar Regions.

The title suggests that this was the world known at the time of the Greeks and Romans. Certainly they didn't know of America or Australia! Edward Wells, the cartographer, has indicated in bold the areas they did know - N Africa, Europe, India etc.

A scarce miniature map.
I also have a copy of Wells's map of Asia for sale in my ebay shop - please see my other items.

Size: the sheet measures approx. 17cms x 10.5cms.
Condition: Sheet a little browned with age, with stains along the top. Trimmed close on the left-hand side. All map details very clear., title very slightly scuffed.  Please study my photographs.

Postage: £4.75 within the UK. £9.00 to Europe, £12.00 to USA etc.
I have other antique maps, books, prints etc. in my ebay shop - please see my other items.
