SONY SUPER WALKMAN WM-702.
One of the most iconic Walkmans in history.

The birth of the 701C, then the 702.

Towards the end of 1988, SONY released a player that made history for being one of the most advanced players at the time, thanks to the combination of a very small size, advanced electronics and feather touch buttons.

High quality sound thanks to the EX head, the brand new EX-DBB system and the excellent tape transport system.

But it was its design what set new marks in the Walkman era, and was a prelude of the design that many brands used later in the 90's

The 701C was the first model of a new generation of devices with a design of a new era. It was the combination of all that features that made the 701C a milestone in the history of walkmans.

The WM-702 inherited all the high marks and more.

COSMETIC CONDITION:

BEAUTIFULLY KEPT! Almost 100% blemish free. This is a unit that was part of my collectibles, therefore only used a couple of times and properly stored as the precious item it is. It has been kept in a temperature-controlled storage since the late 90s.

- All the IC logic controls maintain their original look, function and feather touch attributes.
- All the analogic controls are in top-shape.
- The closing mechanism is in excellent shape.
- The tape transport area is extremely clean and the head remains pristine.
- The battery compartment is in great shape (100% functional), plus the battery lid closes firmly.
- The tape transport and battery compartment are in excellent shape (no scratches or rust).

WORKING CONDITION:

All controls are mechanically-sound, however there seems to be an issue with the playback mechanism. The unit powers-up as soon as the external battery is attached but no playback action is observed.

The unit was tested with an external AA battery and with a rechargeable battery.
All of these methods power up the device. Sometimes the red LED indicator lights up.

Summary: This rare unit is best for a collector, exhibitions, or to enjoy amazing sound reproduction on a Walkman with stunning stylish attributes.
