1958 Ford F250 Pickup

For consignment, a Ford pickup right out of 1958!  Owned by our consignor for the last 27 years and treated to a newer 289ci V8 engine from a 1968 Ford pickup as well as an updated transmission and fully redone brakes, this truck is maintaining the looks of the original, but has several upgrades and modernizations to make it a very reliable classic.  From our Hallowed overstuffed Halls to your garage and ready to take on whatever you throw at it, and doing so in 1958 style.

Exterior
Heavy gauge steel, all fairly straight covers this classic.  With its high hood and custom FORD badge within a black mesh grille leading the way, just below we see dual headlights which are surrounded by red bezels and a red eggcrate grille and all is looking very nice.  Just below, the turn signals which float just above a simple pristine matte black bumper.  The front quarters are tight and minding their gaps nicely and fall rearward to the straight doors.  Just above these is a wraparound front glass trimmed in black rubber.  A body cab offers up plenty of room for driver and passenger, and a small mirror is now on at the top of the driver's door along with clean dimple free chromed handles.  On the hood sides are black lighting bolt and F100 badging, even though this a F250.  Behind the cab is the step side feature where one can hop on and have easier access to the rear of the bed.  A rounded fender sticks out from either side of the bed and frames nicely grained white oak and ash bed sides.  On the back of this straight steel and wood long bed is the Ford embossed tailgate and custom oak rear bumper complete with black iron crosses and even iron cross cut outs for the sunken tail lights.  And don't glaze over the bed as it comes to us inside with more wonderful grain oak and ash and just a hint of the red wheelhouses peeking through the sides.  All this is bathed in dark red paint which is very nicely applied but does show evidence of poorly performed body work and some rust bubbling on the lower panels and cab corners.  15-inch 8 lug wheels round out the package and are wrapped in like new staggered width BF Goodrich raised white letter radials.

Interior
Sticking with the utilitarian look, the door panels are now shod in red painted steel with small black vinyl inserts and a small speaker.  Inside the first thing your eyes go to is the black steel making up the floors.  Just above is an original looking dash also in red, but this time adding in a polished aluminum panel, knobs, and bezels.  This large panel houses all the gauges which are all factory installed units along with some AutoMeter add ons.  The red continues for the dash top in full metal jacket above and below are more AutoMeter gauges along with some knobs and pulls as well as the ignition key.  An AM/FM/Cassette stereo has been fitted into the dash and a heater box is seen below, although the hoses do not appear present in the engine bay.  Black flamed slip covers are gracing the 1969 Mustang Mach 1 bucket seats that straddle the hump and they are mounted to custom seat riser boxes with more oak and ash surrounds.   Red seatbelts have been added to this interior for some extra safety.  All black painted steel with some rebar supports is above and looking very clean.  Also noted is a small T-handle shifter within a small chrome and black bezel.

Drivetrain
Under that tall hood resides a non original circa 1968 289ci V8.  A 2-barrel carburetor is bolted to the top and a C4 3-speed automatic transmission is new as well.  Turning the tires is a limited slip equipped Dana 44 axle in the rear.  A blue painted and slightly patined block with ribbed COBRA dressed valve coverings and a chrome air cleaner cover is on top for a little dress up.  All is buttoned up under this hood.

Undercarriage
A custom side exit dual exhaust featuring headers and turbo mufflers winds past the patinaed black painted black steel framing, body hangers, and floor pans for the cab.  Leaf springs are on all 4 corners for the ride, and freshly redone drum brakes are everywhere for stopping.

Drive-Ability
Slipping inside this truck took me back to a simpler time, that is until I turned the key it started up and settled into a burbling idle.  On the test track we noted the horn, wipers and radio did not work, and while the brakes do work, they could be more fine tuned and be made to stop better.

A great driver quality truck with a touch of hot rodding added in to make this truck able to handle today's modern traffic.  Not to mention a looking good powertrain, custom exhaust, new brakes, and turn the key and drive off the lot!  Then start your show trophy collection.
