1957-1961 Buick 1954-1956 Cadillac? NOS starter armature 1954476

Product Description

NOS genuine GM Delco starter armature, GM part number 1954476, Delco part number D4117.

Bear with me here, this will be a long explanation, since this proved to be quite a difficult part to find the correct application. I never did find this exact part number in any of my Buick Parts books (and I've got a lot of them), but the huge Delco book I've got (you know - the BIG one that seems about 3 feet long and about 436 lbs when you drop it on your foot??) did have one, and only one listing for this armature. Delco says it fits starter 1107800, and that's the only thing it fits. Well, 1107800 starter is listed in that same Delco book for 1961 Buick LeSabre, without A/C (4400 Series).

OK, so now I go to look up what armature is listed in my 1940-1962 Buick Master Chassis book for the 1961 LeSabre (the LeSabre carried over the 364 engine from 1960 LeSabre, while the Invicta and Electra used the 401 as standard). Sure enough, there is the 1107800 starter listed for 1961 LeSabre, but the armature listed for it is 1958023. The 1962 Chassis book I was looking in also says the 1958023 armature fits 1957 and 1958 Buick, all models, and 1959 and 1960 LeSabre (again, they used the 364, while the Invicta and Electra used the 401).

When I go to my 1936-1958 Buick Master Chassis Parts Book, looking for the 1958023 listing, I find that the armature listed for this application (1957-1958 Buick) is 1935851. In looking at Parts History lists, I find that 1935851 was superseded to 1958023 in December 1963. That contradicts my 1962 Chassis book which already listed 1958023, a year BEFORE it became the part number for the armature.

So, checking now other 1935851 listings, I find this number also fits 1954, 1955 and early 1956 Cadillac.

But, where this really gets confusing is the fact that despite the fact that 1935851 was superseded to 1958023 in December 1963, the part number 1935851 was not discontinued until May 1974!

If you've followed this wonderful piece of circular logic I've described, you'll see that I still haven't concluded for sure that this armature fits anything other than 1961 Buick LeSabre with 1107800 starter. Nor has GM mentioned it in their parts books, as a superseded number or original number for anything - the only place it is found is in the Delco book. And, quite circularly, Delco is a division of GM!!

If you want to make a guess if it fits anything else, that's up to you. My guess is that, yes, it will fit those other models mentioned. But, that's only my guess.

Questions are welcome, although I don't know if I can figure anything further out, since I've looked in all my available parts books.

Brand new, never installed, still in original GM/Delco container.

Shipping - Payment

A few words to make things easier.

1. Combined shipping for multiple auctions is always available, but when the auction is over, you will have to wait until I revise things in my eBay "paperwork" to create just one invoice for all your purchased auctions.  And I have to do the revising BEFORE you pay.  If auctions are paid separately (i.e. before you receive my invoice combining items), eBay will no longer then let me combine them on one invoice.  AND, eBay then automatically charges you separate shipping charges for each item, which is not refunded.  Again, this is eBay's set-up.  Combining auctions benefits you by saving you shipping and handling fees.

2. Payment is expected within 3 days.  After 8 days, I will file with eBay to have my auction fees refunded.  If there is a problem with 3 days, please let me know, as I am not unreasonable, and I know that things happen.  Just be aware that having been on eBay full-time for several years has already afforded me an opportunity to hear a lot of "creative" stories.

Thanks for your bid.
