Gibson's first electric bass, the "EB-1", was introduced in 1953 as a replacement for the stand-up bass in electric bands.
In 1958, the same year as the ES-335 was introduced, the semi-hollow style "Gibson EB-2" was born.
The EB-232 Rivoli is the Epiphone version of the Gibson EB-2 bass, with some minor changes such as the head shape and pickguard, but with the same specifications.
It has a laminated maple semi-hollow body, mahogany neck, 30.5inch short scale, 1Vol. 1Tone. control, and a push-button "baritone" switch that cuts low frequencies with a choke coil built under the bridge. The smooth, deep bass from the single, exaggeratedly large Gibson Sidewinder humbucker pickup just below the fingerboard may be a far cry from today's standard electric bass, but it is a perfect match for Jazz, Blues, and other genres. However, there is no other bass that matches the sound of the Jazz, Blues, and other genres.
The design was changed to a slim neck shape in the late '65s, but it is not difficult to play because of its plump and comfortable grip and short scale.
The bridge with mute mechanism is a simple bar type that has been used since the EB series in the 50's, but chrome plating has been adopted along with the P.U. cover, maintaining its beautiful shine.
The overall beauty of the instrument is maintained, and although there are cracks in the paint surface, minor chips, and dents, the gloss and the cherry reddish color, which is a characteristic of the instrument, are still present.
Nut, 2 fence retaining screws, and pickguard screws and brackets have been replaced.
There are no other problems with the remaining truss slots or the electrical system.
This is a highly recommended vintage guitar that looks and sounds perfect.
