Here is a silver (marked M 8) drum shaped mustard pot with an excellent, functioning hinge, solid handle and cobalt liner of leaded or flint glass. The beaded trim work around the top rim and base perfectly accent and reflect in the polished metal. The hinge is well-done and makes a sturdy complement to the shell-shaped thumb grip. Its original cobalt glass liner has a highly polished bottom and top rim (and a nice leaded-sounding ring when tapped gently).

Both the lid and pot are marked 8 and the pot is marked M.  The cup is 2 1/4" in height (approx. 3" to top of shell thumb grip).  The top diameter is 2 3/4" excluding handle.   The internal glass liner is 2" in height and has a top diameter of 2 1/2".  This piece weighs nearly 3/4 pound in total, and excluding the glass liner, nearly 1/2 pound.

There are minimal signs of wear and tear for the age of this piece, and only expected use marks to liner.  Trim / accent areas including beading and shell retain a majority of original patina for pattern depth/definition.  Note this style bears a resemblance to many late-19th century mustard pots made with stronger metal blends for hospitality or military use.
