As you can see the cartridge looks red/pink against the light; this is to allow infrared communication with the pokewalker accessory. Fake cartridges don't have this feature, and would therefore just look black against the light.

The outer box is in FANTASTIC condition, the best I've ever seen for HG/SS.
However do please note some very minor damage which I've shown with extensive pictures taken against the light to highlight any imperfections.
Is the game region-free? Yes, SoulSilver is a region-free game so it will work on any compatible (Nintendo DS, DS Lite, DSi, 2DS, 3DS) console from any region.
We have tested it on a Japanese 3DS and it works fine.
