Up for sale is a c 1840 Watkins & Hill London Surveyors Compass with levels.  The engraved silvered dial measures 6-in. diameter and is appropriately marked by the maker "Watkins & Hill London.".   The company traded at 5 Charing Cross in London, England and was a partnership between Francis Watkins and William Hill that begin in 1810 and ended in 1857 with Hill's death.

Compass is made of solid brass the measures 14" across.  Looks like the glass was replaced with plastic at some time but other than that looks all original.  It has an internal scale divided in four quadrants and an engraved brass cover marked with scales for, "Links" and "Degrees.".

Excellent condition with patination to the brass and some minimal surface scratching to the dial cover.  Looks like it was well cared for and the levels are working correctly after 184 years!

I am selling a few antique surveyors compass this week so check my other listings.
