WWII Era Original US Army Fighting Knife & Leather Scabbard - Made from M1 Bayonet - Very Nice Condition

Up for sale is a WWII Era Original US Army Fighting Knife w/Leather Scabbard.  This knife was "Theater Made" from an M1 Bayonet.  The blade was shortened to a 6 7/8" length, the tip was reshaped to a spear point.  The guard was ground down to remove the muzzle ring and locking tang.  The slot for the bayonet lug and locking mechanism has been filled.  It has the black grips.  The right side grip panel has a hairline crack, see photo.  The leather scabbard has the typical reinforcing rivets common on knife scabbards of this period.  The leather is soft and supple.  The knife is used, please see photos for details and condition.  The last photo is from the reference book noted below, showing this knife.

If you see M.H. Coles Book's "Best of US Military Knives, Bayonets & Machetes" page 269.

This would make a great accessory to add to your WWII collection.
