1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

Earl died in 1969 so there's a decent chance he laid eyes on this stunner, a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette convertible with a numbers-matching drivetrain, notably the 427ci V8 with a ten horsepower upgrade from new and a vinyl covered removable hardtop, one of the special options in 1967

Exterior
Two stage Rally Red glimmers in better than new condition.  The "cut away bubble" Stinger hood is among the most iconic body parts to ever be constructed on an American car and is spectacular black over the red.  Hidden headlights demonstrate what's consistent on this car, the gaps.  Panel gaps whether for hood, headlights, or large parts are about as straight as possible.  Five functional vertical louvers are found on the fender and vary from other mid year Corvettes and resembling the gills of a shark.  The side pipe and their heat shields are in very fine condition as is the metal trim and wrap around bumpers on the car.  Vinyl covers the accessory hard top and is in perfect condition, while the soft black canvas top and plastic window look great.  15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels are on the hubs, enhanced with polished trim rings.  Overall, this is a high quality exterior with excellent paint but in line with the idiom "there is no perfect car" we find one small crack on the left front of the nose.

Interior
Simple, smooth, and stylish door panels in black vinyl greet those who enter this car.  There is nothing out of place, no ostentatious ornamental elements, just the basic controls for the business of driving.  Low back black vinyl bucket seats sit squarely with the back partition and look virtually untouched and have bright metal trim.  The fully carpeted luggage area is how it would have come from the factory with the exception of an added external speaker box.  The wood steering wheel is triple spoked and features the cross flag emblem in the center.  The instrument panel is "a devotee's delight, safety padded and vinyl covered and replete with those instruments so important to the serious driver".  It includes the large speedometer and tachometer front and center.  The arched coves in front of the driver and passenger flank a center panel that includes a clock, some control knobs for the fan and for the AM/FM radio that is positioned vertically.  The shifter sits in an unblemished base with a gear diagram and parking brake just behind it.  Black loop style carpet is in excellent condition and is protected by black Sting Ray embroidered mats.

Drivetrain
The matching numbers 427ci L36 V8 resides under the Sting Ray's hood and is topped with a period correct intake with three 2-barrel carburetors replacing the original 4-barrel carb, and that is where the extra 10 horses are found.  A matching numbers Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission is attached and sends power to the 3.08 gears in back with Positraction.  By the stamping, we know the rear axle was assembled on April 6th, 1967.   Power disc brakes are found on all four wheels.

Undercarriage
All clean and dry underneath with not enough surface rust to warrant a note.  Coil springs occupy the independent suspension up front while a more complex independent arrangement in the back includes a 3-link, a universally-jointed axle drive shaft and torque control arms pivoting at the frame side rail, as well as a transverse leaf spring.  The dual exhaust has a short trip from the manifolds out the side of the car where the exhaust exits before the rear wheels.

Drive-Ability
This well cared for example is serious business and the 3 carbs start the negotiations with a well tuned delivery of fuel to the big 427.   The rumbling exhaust at your sides remind you you're driving a virtual legend, and a very nice one, so we baby the car around the loop and give it physical.  Everything works as it is should with the exception of the brake lights which do not illuminate due to a stuck brake light switch.

Are you ready to enter a new partnership?  Your end of the deal requires regular maintenance and cleaning and a safe shelter.  Your partner's deliverables include smiles, interactions with complete strangers, the satisfaction of simply being in the garage, and perhaps a yield of future dividends.  Do we have a deal?  A Corvette for the discerning buyer is waiting for its next partner.
