1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS Hardtop Tribute

For consignment, a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro sport coupe dressed up as an RS/SS.  While a "clone" would have the correct engine and other mechanical and cosmetic mimicry, a "tribute" takes certain parts and gives a proverbial nod to that model.  That's not to say our car has not had some tasteful upgrades and along with RS components, represents a great car for your consideration.

Exterior
Two stage Marina Blue paint is complemented by white SS stripes that run over the hood, deck lid, and rear spoiler.  An SS emblem is on the grille which is flanked by matching headlight covers in true RS fashion.  The cowl hood extends over the vents which are also painted white while a 383 emblem is affixed to the front fenders.  The chrome bumpers and metalwork are in great condition and so is the SS gas cap on back.  Chevrolet Rally wheels are on board here with 14-inchers in the front and 15-inchers in the back.  The slightly staggered wheels and tires contribute to the raked stance of the car.  A front air dam is balanced by the dual exhaust which protrudes from the back.  Overall, the paint and exterior condition is very nice.

Interior
Simple black door cards welcome occupants of the car with typical features and Camaro plaques on each door.  Black vinyl buckets seats are in remarkable condition and the back seats may have never experienced a derriere.  A wood steering wheel rim surrounds three polished metal spokes mounted on a polished steering column.  Twin coves house the main gauges on the dashboard which is standard Camaro and in great condition.  The faux wood backing on the center stack dresses up the area that houses the vent controls and AM/FM radio with Bluetooth capabilities.  A Sniper EFI screen is mounted under the radio and monitors fuel delivery and engine conditions.  The classic quad gauge leads the center console with white faced square readouts.  A Hurst shifter with a traditional white ball handle serves as the joystick and like the entire center console, is in excellent condition.  Black loop style carpet covers the floor while a stitched black headliner shows in great shape.

Drivetrain
Just as the fenders say, a newly installed 383ci stroker power plant sits proudly in the engine bay.  Managing the fuel is a Holley Sniper EFI system over aluminum heads.  A Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission with new clutch moves the car which our consignor states puts out 502 horsepower.  That all heads to the rear wheels where the 10 bolt rear houses 2.73 gears.  The engine bay is replete with polished metal and ceramic coated Doug's headers, while red ignition wires team up with the red filter element to add some color.  A gold brake booster assists with sending fluid to power disc brakes in the front and power drums in the rear.

Undercarriage
Very clean and dry underneath, uniformly black and rust free.  The dual exhaust comes from the headers and links to an H-pipe before meeting up with a pair of Flowmaster mufflers and finally exiting under the rear valance with angle cut tailpipes.  Coil spring operated the front independent suspension while new leaf springs are found in the back and new KYB shock absorbers were also added.

Drive-Ability
Fuel injection means assured start up and the car did not disappoint as it roared to life.  We headed out onto the loop and noticed a particularly touchy accelerator so we minded our right foot as we circled around.  The car had good acceleration and braking, and the high stance and upright ride provides good visibility.  Our report card notes the following issues: the horn is inoperable, the reverse lights do not work, nor do the turn signals, and finally the factory tachometer is not working.  Some of these are simple confirmations of what the consignor told us ahead of time.

A beautiful and powerful powerplant along with spectacular paint make this Camaro worthy of your consideration.  Add the RS elements and SS badging, and you have an attention getting street machine which retains its classic status among some of the most iconic American cars.
