Interesting Wooden top hat with a lift off lid  and mounted on a brass base.  The hat looks like its carved from pine. Could have been some kind of store display perhaps, or maybe someone converted a hat mold into a box?

It stands 17.5" tall and about 10.75" wide across brim, which is 8.5" deep.  The round brass base is 7 3/8" across.

When I bought this many years ago I could read the marking on the underside of the brim.  Its illegible now.  I seem to remember it was made in England, but no guarantee with my memory.

Condition is good, with age appropriate wear.  It has a few small nicks to wood, no cracks or big chunks. There is a nick to one edge of the top of the hat (see photos).  One side of hat has a large knot hole which is darker .There is a light white residue over a few sections of the wood as if it once had a pickled finish. The hat is unique and shows well.  Note:  I have made no attempt to clean wood or polish wood.
