Carl Corley wrote The Different and the Damned and it was published anonymously in 1968 by PEC (Publishers Export Co.) with the stock number 19. PEC was Corley's usual (but not sole) publishing company.

Gunn & Harker's book, 1960's Gay Pulp Fiction, describes this book as Corley's fictionalized autobiography.

Michael Bronski, in his great book Pulp Friction, describes Corley's work thusly: "all the [Corley] novels read unlike any other pulps of their time."

Tom Norman's book, American Gay Erotic Paperbacks: A Bibliography, lists 22 books under Corley's name but some of those are reprinted editions of his earlier books. These don't include any of the books Corley wrote but didn't put his name to, such as this book.

The best information on Corley is in John Howard's wonderful book, Men Like That, where he devotes 27 pages to him, plus a complete bibliography including books he published using pen names as well as anonymously (The Different and the Damned, which I'll be listing soon). John Howard rediscovered Corley, similar to how Michael Bronski rediscovered Victor Banis.

Corley's work is discussed &/or shown in all the main reference books on gay pulps.

Carl Corley is also in Wikipedia, although their bibliography of Corley's books somewhat ill-considered & could use a real editor's eye.

Corley very often painted the artwork for his book covers, which leaves us wondering who painted this bizarre cover. Perhaps because it was published anonymously he wanted it to have a very different cover so his employers, the State of Louisiana, wouldn't find out and possibly fire him.

The title of this book is a take off on F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Beautiful and the Damned.

The book is stored & will be shipped in a polypropylene bag.

I will combine shipping to reduce the cost. Let me know if you are bidding on more than one book.

It will be shipped via Media Mail from Hawaii, which is sometimes quick, but it can take between 6 to 8 weeks.
