Firmly Launched as part of DC's 2016 REBIRTH era, Red Hood and The Outlaws (Volume 2) continued Red Hood's adventures with other "misfit superheroes." Whereas the first incarnation of THE OUTLAWS from DC's The New 52 era included ARSENAL and STARFIRE of Teen Titans, Rebirth's Outlaws gave Jason Todd's hero his own version the DC "Trinity", with ARTEMIS standing in for Wonder Woman and BIZARRO SUPERMAN for the Man of Steel.
The series enjoyed a run of over two years, after which a title change turned the series into a solo with Red Hood #27 (Dec, 2018). Exactly two years after that, a second title change incorporated both previous versions of the series with Red Hood: Outlaw #51 (Jan, 2021). Red Hood: Outlaw, however, only saw one additional issue -- Issue #52 -- before its abrupt cancellation, or so it seemed. In its two issues, Outlaw promised yet another new direction for the character, this time casting him as an unwilling yet inspirational protector of a Gotham City enclave known as 'The Hill." Stylized and different, the book was promising and with its short pair of issues, seemingly unrealized.
That, thankfully, is the case no longer. Red Hood: The Hill debuted in early 2024, continuing the saga from Red Hood: Outlaw, which now serves as a true prelude for the events of The Hill. And while The Hill has been solicited as a Limited Series, fan interest may very well turn the title into a new Red Hood ongoing if interest persists. DC has proven they're as open to such a possibility, as with the recent status upgrade to their Dawn of DC Green Arrow series, as they are with early cancellations, i.e., the short-lived Tim Drake: Robin ongoing.
If you're a RED HOOD fan, not only is this series finale SKAN VARIANT -- awesome all on its own but made even more awesome given its new status as a prelude to the current Red Hood: The Hill -- a 'Must-Have' for your collection, but your support of the excellent new Red Hood: The Hill ongoing is a 'Must-Do'. Let's all come together to keep JASON TODD around and face-front as long as we can, especially as the new era of DC Films is just around the corner. Let's do it today!
