Child's Polychrome Plate

BIRDS & GARDEN FLOWERS

ORNITHOLOGY & BOTANY

Minton Staffordshire England c 1845

This child's soup plate or shallow bowl was originally part of an elegant dollhouse toy dinner service, a stunning and scarce hand colored over transfer print, circa 1845. The piece is transfer printed and embellished with hand painted colorful exotic bird with brilliant flowers exuberantly hand colored over the glaze in bright enamel paints with red, orange, yellow, green and blue palette. The rim is hand outlined in iron red. It measures 4-1/2 inches across with a shallow well.

It has various signature marks including the painter decorators's pattern number 3/4552, and an impressed coded tally mark. The plate was made by Minton, a fine 19th century pottery manufactory in the Staffordshire region of England.

The piece is in great condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Stilt marks, minor firing separations on bottoms, original to the making, and wear to the painted rim consistent with age and prior use. The tiny plate is a lovely example of a rare pattern. Children's hand decorated tablewares of this quality are quite scarce and highly sought after. Animal and bird transferware collectors will adore the tiny set! A superb example from an early doll’s tea set. Offered as is.
