This matched pair of vintage NC tourist art jug and pitcher is a unique addition to any collection. The unusual detail in the glaze makes these pieces stand out and add a touch of art to any home. With a set of two items, including a jug and pitcher, these ceramic pieces are perfect for serving syrup and honey or displaying as decorative items. This type of tourist pottery was produced as a transitional style from utility pottery to more decorative motifs, and was commonly sold in roadside stands congaing local honey during the 50's and 60's. This pair is unsigned, but attributed to Cole or Sanford potteries. The drip glaze is more sophisticated and detailed than the average piece of this genre and was applied by the same hand. The jug is 4 in tall by 3.5 wide, the pitcher is 5in tall by 3 in wide. These are traditional southeast style pieces that were made by hand between 1950-1960.
They represent an important period in Southeastern pottery history that should be represented in any collection.
