Vintage antique 800 Silver TRADITIONAL GUATEMALAN CHACHAL CHARM NECKLACE
Completely handmade, this is a superb example of this type of necklace! Featuring a large Chilean one peso 1881 coin pendant, a crucifix with hearts, eagles, deer and leaves, pistols, birds, jaguars, mules and dogs!
Vintage 40's or earlier, not made for tourist industry, this was made for native use and was most likely made in Guatemala.
The large one peso coin itself is quite rare and is 900 silver. Coin was minted in Santiago, Chile in 1881, and was also in circulation in El Salvador until 1892. The other parts to this necklace acid tested at solid 800 silver, probably made from melted down coin silver.
The chain is doubled and there are six large balls that connect the chain segments.
Length without coin pendant is 26", the pendant will add another 5 1/2" in length.
Heavy! Weight 159 gr.
Excellent condition with minor surface wear with patina/tarnish to be expected. The doubled wire links are soldered so they won't split apart, the charm jump rings are also soldered securely. CLEAN, no odors, from my smoke-free home.
