TDK AR-X 60. THE TOP OF THE LINE NORMAL BIAS TAPE.

Ultimate Type I, Normal Position/Bias 120us - 60 MINUTES.

Includes useful bonus material for amazing audio tape recording + data + tricks.

THE BEST NORMAL POSITION TAPE EVER MADE:

Type I - perhaps the most variable category in terms of quality, presents a complex dilemma when trying to find the right one for all your recordings.  TDK AR tape had a higher than normal coercivity, giving it a rising high end and good SOL. Then they released the AR-X version with an even better sonic performance, sometimes rivaling some chrome and metal tapes!

TDK AR-X was a top of the line type I cassette. It has fantastic Bass performance (315Hz: +1.3dB) and Immense Treble (16kHz: +4.5dB).

(Compare it with MA-XG 315Hz: +1.2dB and 16kHz: +3.0dB).

FYI: Incredibly a TDK AR (high-level normal tape) offers much better quality than a simple chrome TDK CDing (base-level). Not to mention, the AR-X surpasses many tapes costing up to 3 times more!

REVIEW:

“ I must say that after probably 15 or more years in storage (since AR-X wasn't made since the late 80s), this tape held up VERY well. No dropouts and bias was easy to setup and was set to where new tapes go. Usually older tapes the bias is set way off due to deterioration of the tape. Not this case. Good job TDK. I also used Dolby S as I usually do and it works very well with normal setting tapes.”

• Maximum sonic performance, anti vibration features, anti modulation noise shell and maximum resonance reduction.

• SP-AR: Super Precision Anti-Resonance Cassette Mechanism.

• Highest degree of azimuth accuracy through the use of super precision parts.

CONDITION:

This premium tape from TDK belongs to my personal collection and as such has been kept in great condition.

It was recorded only once, then properly stored in a temperature-controlled environment free of dust, sunlight or magnetic fields.

Tape, case and inner sheet look very good. Inner sheet has some writing on it.

I tested its recording capabilities and the tape has performed as when it was new (tested using a Pioneer Elite CT-7).

CASSETTES in the DIGITAL AGE:

Why are groups of people taking an increasing interest in audio cassettes as a means to preserve new sound recordings?

It’s generally harder, today, to appreciate the nuances of sound reproduction, because in many ways, the typical sound delivery system has gone backwards. Indeed, even the digital files themselves – MP3s or other compressed options, are simplified to facilitate better storage, and that compromises the quality. Worst of all, qualitative degradation in digital media is much less attractive than in analogue media such as tape.

The digital music reproduction we hear today is often way less stimulating and pleasurable a listening experience than we might have gained from an audio cassette and hi-fi system thirty years ago.

Additionally, cassettes colour a recording. The good ones add a sort of audible sugar, and every different product produces a different rendition of a sound. Us humans thrive on variety, and the nuances, the fluctuations, that audio cassettes add to our listening experience, accordingly have great value. Even though some of the nuances register subconsciously, we do miss them when we switch to digital media.
