He was one of the most significant performing artist of his time. 

He composed pieces for orchestra, chamber o., choir, piano and organ which were published u.a. by Schirmer, Ricordi, Salabert, Breitkopf, Universal. 

He studied composition in Leipzig with Max Reger. Karl Straube the virtuoso organist of St. Thomas Church organ. In Bologna was Enrico Bossi his teacher.
