A fine example of a very early 1800s stained boxwood or walnut wood flute in four parts all marked "Metzler  London  3 ".

The flute has 6 open holes and one key operated hole (with good strong spring)

Condition is excellent for a 200 yr wooden instrument no cracks evident.

Terry Mcgee site has excellent information on the metzler family history and some nice examples shown one similar to this one ascribed around 1820 but more probably pre 1816 and one similar for sale on another site at the moment with some history of the family also (the only one i have seen for sale)
