Thank you Gil for saving me that chaotic day and rescuing all the vintage clothing you saved as well as me. I will always thank Gil for every piece I list from that estate sale. Extremely RARE 1880-1883 Floral wool faux wrap front Victorian Teagown. Early 1880 to 1883 gowns are extremely rare to find in any condition, it was a very short lived style of the very early 1880s period. The huge bustle came back into style by 1884 and had straight front skirts with the enormous bustle back. The military look was highly fashionable during the mid 1880s period. I am so relieved that this piece survived the chaos of all the people that spilled into the upper ballroom where the antique clothing was set up for the sale. This was on a rack along with other item's, the rack was turned over and fell to the floor, but, this piece was not damaged as other fine pieces were. Gil removed ALL antique gowns from the rack, including this beauty, and laid everything in the hallway for me to go through. This is a winter Teagown/Morning Breakfast gown is constructed of light weight fine wool with a scattered small floral woven pattern in dark Umber, medium and pale Peach colors  very feminine print. See photo's for closeup of pattern. Gown is adorned with pale pink wide silk ribbon that trims the upper back bustle, sleeve ends, neckline and front right side bodice and down the front of each skirt panel. This is a step-in Polonaise, one piece sewn together. Front waistband of upper skirt has button closure, back of bodice, see photo, is sewn and secured to upper back skirt. Right side of Teagown is a faux wrap panel sewn into the right skirt seam that wraps across from right to left and secures at the upper left hip area. The fancy Garniture sports a fabulous Marcasite belt buckle with pointed teeth that are secured through the fabric which is woven through a long bar.  Buckle is gold tone in color. Single hook and eye secures to hip area. Teagown hand and machine stitched. Bodice heavily boned with 7 stays sewn into the seams. Very clean inside bodice. Skirt has loops to hang on a hook. Skirt and bodice lined in medium brown cotton. Back of skirt is gathered into a bustle. Inside skirt, see photo  is ruched in sections at center back of skirt with two elastic bands that firm the bustled section. Petersham constructed of medium brown cotton. No label, home made. Front bodice has "security hooks, that are silver in color and close the bodice front and cannot slip out as a normal hook and eye can. Long sleeves trimmed in pink silk ribbon and ends are "Ruched". Slight "Kick Up" sleeves at the shoulder. Back has pink silk folded ribbon and sewn on a slant. Armcyces are super clean, no stains, rot, or holes. Since this is wool there are very tiny pinholes scattered here and there. It was folded in a box and then hung on a rack for the sale, two other 1890s two piece ensembles were in the same box with some small moth damage. The Teagown is near mint with the exception of the scattered pinholes, I did not see them until the fabric was held up to the light. There are two small holes, see photo's, where the end of my small finger shows through. See measurements in the Item Specifics section. Sleeves 19, ribbon measures 2" wide, Marcasite belt buckle measures 5" wide and 1" in height. Glorious and highly detailed Tea Gown or Morning Breakfast gown. All sales final. I am downsizing. No OVERSEAS SHIPPING. Thank you.
