A beautiful antique statue of Confucius as a 'scholar's object' figurine and chop seal, carved in Shoushan stone. 

A serenely posed seated figure, hands crossed in a gongshou courtesy gesture, holding a scroll. The polished surface is additionally adorned with minutely applied sgraffito details. On the underside is a four character chop seal. 

Marks: Intaglio carved with typical seal script (zhuanshu) characters that (possibly) read 以示同仁  ("to show sympathy and benevolence").

Date: Circa late 1800s to early 1900s.

Condition: Excellent. No repairs or losses. Please patina of age.

Size: The figurine is just under 7 inches high. Weighs a hefty 2lb 3oz. (1 kg)
