Genuine British Army issue

USGI 50/50 NyCo '6-Colour Desert' twill fabric.

The cut of these smocks is a direct copy of the SAS-issue windproof smocks with a three-panel hood. We found a small lot of these smocks a few years ago and all of them were made identically. After discussions with other collectors, it was determined that they were locally made in Iraq or Afghanistan with surplus USGI fabric.

Interestingly, most of the fabric panels have misprints in the camouflage pattern making them unworthy of government-contracted uniforms. The misprinted fabric was likely sold off as surplus and then found its way to clothing makers in the mid-east.

We have found several photos of British Special Forces and RM Commandos wearing similar smocks made in a variety of US camouflage patterns as well as flat tan, further cementing the theory that these choc-chip smocks exist for the same purpose. Attached are photos of RM Commandos wearing smocks made with surplus MARPAT, 3-Color Desert (DCU), and flat tan.
