This complete set of the first U.S. edition of the fabled Lord of the Rings trilogy was printed in Great Britain by Houghton Mifflin of Boston.

All pages and map inserts are intact, as are the beautiful lithographed bookplates, which remain unmolested.
Having been well-read and loved multiple times over two generations, the books are in fair-to-good condition, and the slipcovers are gone.

While the spine corners show some rough wear, the bindings on all three volumes are generally solid (with the exception of a break in the endpaper of vol. 2 where the map is mounted).
