Here we have a lovely vintage 1970's studio pottery miniature vase made by Carn pottery. Carn Pottery was founded in the early 1970's by John M Beusmans who produced his wares in the Old Chapel in the small village of Nancledra, Penzance Road, St Ives. Carn Pottery is often compared to Troika as they have fairly similar styles. John moved to Cornwall from Hampshire with his parents who ran a retail shop selling pottery. Incidentally, John's parents did make lampshades for Troika lamps. His work is quite distinctive with a sort of washed blue matt glaze and incised designs - this particular piece having a wonderful spiral/concentric circular design to one side and a floral pattern to the other. It has a lovely retro; of the era bulbous/onion shape. Carn Pottery is the last surviving pottery from this region from the desirable 60's/70's work. As they still produce their wares, prices are quite affordable, I would imagine once they stop producing, the prices will rise. A good investment for the future I would imagine. I think this could be an early design as I have struggled to find another and there is no N number to the base. This measures approximately 4 inches by just over 2.5 inches. It has a fabulous look - perfect for the lover of mid century pottery or the contemporary home. This is the only one on eBay of course so get it or regret it! If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
