Up for auction is a VERY RARE pewter replica of the Windecker Eagle 1.

The Windecker Eagle I has the distinction of being the first all-composite aircraft to receive FAA certification. The Eagle was the product of several years (1960s) of experimentation by Dr. Leo Windecker and Dr. Fairfax Windecker, working with Dow Chemical Company, to develop lightweight fiberlass reinforced plastic structures for aviation use.

A skeleton crew in Midland, TX hand-made about one Eagle a year: Build one, sell it, build another.
Windecker built nine planes including two prototype test aircraft, six civilian versions and one for the US Air Force that was designated the YE-5.  One resides at the National Air & Space Museum (in storage) and another at the Lake Jackson Historical Museum in Texas.

This particular replica was the property of an aerospace engineer who worked for Windecker.  It is 7" x 8" and weighs 1 lb. 6 oz.  It sits on a sturdy wooden base and has been signed by Dr. Leo Windecker.  It is in great condition.  This is a treasure as I have never seen another one like it.
