“An exact science of the One visible and invisible universe of Mind and the registration of all idea of thinking Mind in light, which is matter and also energy.”

Long before Walter Russell established his University of Science and Philosophy, at Swannanoa, the palatial estate of a railroad magnate, long abandoned, on a mountain top on the border of August and Nelson Counties in Virginia, in 1927 he wrote the first edition of this book. “When it was first published it won more condemnation than favor from a world which was not then as ready for it as now. The book mixed science and metaphysics in a manner which nullified its impression on physicists. Gradually, however, many of its then radical statements have been verified by some the world’s greatest scientists and have won him many followers…..It was never his intention to reprint THE UNIVERSAL ONE….but because it may be of untold help at this crucial period in mankind’s progress, we are reprinting it in its original form.”

Walter Bowman Russell (1871 – 1963) a Renaissance man? Maybe, but a polymath most definitely. A self-taught successful American impressionist painter (of the Boston School), sculptor, musician, mystic and author, his lectures and writing place him firmly in the New Thought Movement. A member of the Twilight Club and founder with Lao Russell, of the University of Science and Philosophy, he and Lao collaborated on several books (many kept in print by the University). In his New York Times obituary, he is quoted as saying, “All of my works are masterpieces, all of my work is inspired. But the credit is not mine, it belongs to God.”
