Morganite, also known as "pink beryl", "rose beryl", "pink emerald", is certainly the best-known of the colorful group of Beryl family along with Aquamarine and Emerald, though its rarity stands in the way of it becoming a common jewelry stone.

Morganite's color can range from a soft pink, to peach, to violet-pink, to salmon-pink. Its color is serene and tender, radiating a charm and vitality like no other pink gem.

Pink beryl of fine color and good sizes was first discovered on an island on the coast of Madagascar in 1910. In December that same year, the New York Academy of Sciences named the pink variety of beryl "Morganite" after the American banker and mineral collector J. P. Morgan. 

This gemstone mainly comes from deposits in Brazil, Madagascar, Afghanistan and California. Its good hardness of 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale is the reason for its excellent wearing qualities.
