A lovely original Shelley blue and grey ginger jar ribbed on a potter’s wheel.  Just under 7'' tall & 6.5'' wide. Percy Shelley (1860–1937) was an English potter and a major force in developing Shelley Potteries. He was born in Longton, Staffordshire. He attended Owen's College, Manchester and then London University where he gained a B.A. Degree. Harmony Ware was introduced by Shelley in 1932. It evolved through a series of styles under the guidance of Eric Slater.  There were many different patterns on various items.  In the 1930s Shelley produced a range of colourful effects on earthenware and china. The earthenware included wall chargers, ginger jars, toast racks, candlesticks and jugs.  The potter has signed the piece with the initial 'B' on both the lid and base.
