SwinSID is a hardware replacement for the original Commodore 64 6581 or 8580 SID sound chip. It is a plug-in replacement ; just set the jumper for 6581 or 8580 and go! The SwinSID emulates the sound of the SID chip, but is lot more powerful and lets you experience the new dimension of C64 music.

Compatibility Issues:

The SwinSID is not perfect, but it comes reasonably close. It sure beats paying top dollar for an original SID chip.

Both revisions of Commodore’s SID did double duty as the sound chip and as the control chip for input devices that rely on analogue resistors. Such devices include paddles and mice. As such a SwinSID equipped C64 will lose this functionality.

Paddles and mice use an analog to digital conversion circuit built into the original SID. SwinSID does not include this functionality, thus paddles and mice do not work with it.
