Letter typed and signed by William Saroyan, signed "Bill"... written in San Francisco on September 15th, 1949 after a trip to Fresno and Hollywood.  He is writing to his friends Armenian-American artist Manuel Tolegian and his wife Araks Vartabedian Tolegian, to thank them for letting himself and friend Mehran drop in for a visit. Bill Saroyan stopped in often to their home while in Los Angeles. Araks was a great cook and so this visit was a common occurrence with many friends.  He is in LA for work time at Hollywood studio. He notes that he should nominate Manuel for a National Institute of Art fellowship/grant.  Then Bill notes on the letter envelope that he has done that!   Typical of Saroyan's letters...typed single space with no paragraphs!  The hand written note at the bottom refers to photographs that were included in the letter. Saroyan most likely did that knowing Manuel himself often took photographs of people and places that he thought might someday be a good subject for a painting.  This letter is a gem, reflecting long friendship.  Indeed, Manuel & Araks stood as Best Man and Attendant to BOTH of William Saroyan's weddings to Carol Marcus!
