This vintage unpainted "Santo de Palo" is in very good condition. The wood is heavy and smooth.  Face, hair, clothing, body and horse are well chiseled with details. The cross held up by the left hand must be re-glued (See photo) and the thumb of the left hand is cracked (See photo without the cross). There is a light crack on the horse's left leg (See photo) and the left front hoof is half missing (See photo). The small wooden cross will be packed in bubble wrap and attached to the base with scotch tape for the buyer to reattach.
The carver, Ernesto Rivera, titled the piece "Tres Reyes a Caballo."
The piece is believed to be the work of "Santero" Ernesto Rivera of Corozal, Puerto Rico. It's his style and he signed it below as "de Rivera."  Ernesto Rivera comes from a long line of "artesanos" from the central mountainous region of Morovis and Corozal, Puerto Rico and is the grandson of acclaimed "santero" Genaro Rivera.
While the piece is undated, it's believed to have been carved sometime between 1980-1992.
