The Vacuum Oil Company, a predecessor of Mobil, was first registered in Egypt.   

Around 1939, an affiliate of Standard Oil Company of New Jersey (Jersey Standard), Exxon's predecessor, began exploring for oil in Egypt. 

In 1946, Jersey Standard successfully discovered oil in Sinai and RasMatarma.

Vacuum Oil was founded in 1866 by Matthew Ewing and Hiram Bond Everest, of Rochester, New York. Lubrication oil was an accidental discovery while attempting to distill kerosene.

Vacuum Oil Co. has branches in Canton and Shanghai China. Also has branch offices in Japan since the Meiji/Taisho Era.
