This unusual item is an antique Meiji Era, Half Clam Shell from Japan, which has been painted on the interior with gold lacquer in the Japanese Maki-E method. The same method used in the designs of the clams used in kai-awase, or “shell matching”. This is a true gem!

The stunning piece comes from a deceased estate of an antique collector. The inside of the shell is painted in a rich gold lacquer, with a beautiful design of what appears to a mouse sitting on a raddish, gazing off at a landscape in the distance. Very detailed and cute depiction.

This unique piece is sure to be a conversation starter and a prized possession for years to come.

Don't miss out on the opportunity to own a truly unique Japanese antique!
