Description

J-200 AN made in 1995 is now in stock. 17” jumbo body J-200 is called ‘King of Flat Tops’ and is one of the most popular Gibson acoustic models among rock musicians.

It has a large, American design and a history of being used by many top musicians, including Elvis Presley, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, and in Japan, Kiyoshiro Imawano.

In 1987, Gibson opened an acoustic factory in Bozeman, Montana, and began a full-scale revival of the J-200 of the 1950s, the so-called “reissue” model.

The 17” jumbo body has a spruce top, sides and back made of beautifully grained flame maple, and a 3-piece maple neck that also has flame depending on the angle of view. Rosewood fingerboard and rosewood mustache bridge. The fingerboard and bridge are decorated with white butterfly shell inlays, giving it a luxurious feel.

The body top and cell binding have moderate color fading, as it has been about 30 years since new. Although not often seen on J-200s of this age, the celluloid material of the original pickguard has darkened around the pickguard due to cracks on the pickguard surface and acid gas from age-related deterioration. If disintegration progresses in the future, the pickguard will need to be replaced with a commercially available replica pickguard for the J-200.

When held up to the light, there is a small amount of paint checking due to age, but there are no dents or scratches on the body or neck, and the pattern on the pickguard remains beautifully intact. The pickguard pattern remains beautifully intact.

Nut width: 43.5mm, 648mm (25.5” scale). The neck grip is somewhat flat, but not so thick that it is easy to grip.

It is well adjusted, and there is very little wear on the original frets.

The string height is set at 2.3mm for the 6th string and 1.8mm for the 1st string on the 12th fret with a low, easy-to-play action. The saddle height and adjusting rod have plenty of room to be tightened. It can be used maintenance free for the time being.

Although the body is large, the maple body has a crisp, edgy sound with excellent bass sustain. The flat-picked strokes produce a powerful sound with good response. The sound and looks suit masculine rock and roll and country music, and it is very popular in the market.

As of 2024, the new price of 1957 J-200AN is ¥788.000 (including tax).

It comes with a nostalgic Canadian-made brown hard case. Recommended for those who are looking for a beautiful maple-bodied J-200.
