Kostantinos  Chatzopoulos  { Greek  Poet }


Constantine Hatzopoulos was born on May 11, 1868 in Vrachori Agrinio. It is the first of seven children of a landowner John Chatzopoulos and Theofanis Staikos, who came from a large family kotsampasidon, many of whom were friendly and fighters of 1821. After his secondary education (Primary School in Agrinio, Secondary Mesologi), the 1882 -in the age of fourteen years; just entered the Law School of Athens; in 1888, graduating with the grade "Good". After his military service (1889-1891), working for two years as a lawyer in Agrinio. From 1893 to 1900 he settled in Athens. In the Greco-Turkish War of 1897 conscripted and served in Arta. He then returns to Athens, and the following year (1898-1899) publishes the magazine "Art", which sought to strengthen the demotic language and recommend its readers the European literature. Although short-lived, the magazine of Chatzopoulos -synergates where was I. Gryparis, K. Theotokis, A. Karkavitsas, M. Malakasis, the bohemian, the transceiver. Nirvana, K. Palamas, Av. Porfyras. 

In 1990 he inherits from his grandfather landed property and travels in Germany. In Dresden knows and marries Finnish Sunny Haggmann. From August 1901 until June 1905 staying with a family in Athens. In June 1905, with his wife and three year old daughter settled in Munich. In July 1906 they will move to Berlin, but in February 1908 they will return to Munich. During his stay in Germany, Hatzopoulos will embrace the socialist ideals (1907), will monitor the intellectual and artistic life of the country, will translate many plays (including works by Ibsen and Strindberg), while publish poems, short stories and critical essays to "Nouma" and other publications and magazines. Also translates the "Communist Manifesto" of Marx-Engels on Greek, which will be published in installments in the newspaper "The Worker" of Volos, in 1908. With the outbreak of war in 1914, Hatzopoulos moved with his family to Athens. He will cease to be a member of the "Socialist Athens Centre" although it will not renounce the socialist idees-, disappointed by the controversies of its members. In 1916, he founded together with other intellectuals, the "Company of Social and Political Sciences". In July 1920, the Chatzopoulos traveled one last time in Munich family, to carry from there things them to furnish their new house on the street Mavromichali. However, going to Brindisi with the Italian steamer "Montenegro", will die of food poisoning. He buried and buried in Brindisi. Many years later, his daughter would carry his bones and his wife the First Cemetery of Athens. He published collections of poetry, short stories, prose "Love in the village" (1910), "The Tower of riverbank" (1915), "Autumn" (1917) and satirical genre painting "O Superman" (1915).

In the books of K. Hatzopoulou include four collections of poems in bold lyrikopathes style and musical toned reason: The songs of desolation (1898), The elegy and romances (1898), Simple Ways (1920), Evening Legends (1920). In prose work there are three collections of short stories, Love in the village (1910), Taso, In the dark and Other Stories (1916), Annie and Other Stories (1923, posthumous edition), novels Superman (1915), The Tower of Akropotamos (1915 later by inserting and editing C. Velvet, 1986), Autumn (1917, later 1987). His love of theater led him to translate several projects of European drama as Faust and Iphigenia in Tauris by Goethe, the Electra Chofmannstal, Inspector of the Law. Gogol, the Lady of the sea and When you wake the dead Ch. 'Ibsen, The mysteries of A. Strindberg.
