This auction was originally stopped on January 3rd by request of the NFL Players Association as they thought this ring might not have been Willie Woods actual HOF Ring. I was informed that the NFLPA requested that this auction be pulled and I had contacted and spoke to a High Ranking Executive with the NFL Hall of Fame in Canton, OH and the NFLPA then contacted the NFL Hall of Fame and they now NO LONGER feel that this Ring should be pulled and the Ring is back up for sale to the general public. The NFLPA will not be pulling the auction in the future. The auction will only end once someone buys it or if I choose to cancel the auction. Just wanted to provide this accurate info in case people wondered why the auction was pulled for a few days. So if the NFL Players Association has no reason to pull the ring and does not object to it being on ebay than this should tell you exactly what I have been saying all along that you are looking at and indeed bidding on Willie Woods Original and Real 1989 Hall of Fame 10K Ring!! Because of the High Value of this Ring and the fact that the winner or winners may want to keep their name out of the public eye and not want to draw attention to them selves the winner of the auction will remain private. This item I have for sale this week can’t be called anything but RARE. Many people over use this term and in this care it’s not overused. Those who play football from the time your in Pop Warner to High School to college and to the NFL there is only one goal and that is to win a Championship. This Ring I have up for sale belonged to a person who more than other signifies a winner and a Champion. I have for sale the Original 1989 NFL Hall of Fame Ring belonging to Green Bay Packer Great Willie Wood. With the Green Bay Packers Winning the Teams 4th Super Bowl Championship by winning Super Bowl XLV against the Pittsburgh Steelers no better time to buy a Ring that means so much to any NFL Player other than the Super Bowl Ring. It would be nice if a person from Green Bay or a group or organization in the Green Bay area will end up with the ring and bring it back to Titletown and give back the ring to a well deserving former Packers Great. As when I sold my 1996 Green Bay Super Bowl Players Ring a few years back I was happy to see it wind up back in Wisconsin and in the hands of some Big Packers Fans. Willie Wood was a key member of the Green Bay Packers and the pro football dominance in the 1960s. Yet the 5-10, 190-pound University of Southern California quarterback who specialized in running the ball, was not drafted by any National Football League team. He had to seek a tryout and prove his worth before the Packers accepted him as a free agent in 1960. Within a short time, Willie was recognized as a premier free safety in the NFL. He became a starter in his sophomore 1961 season and held that job for more than a decade until his retirement following the 1971 campaign. Wood, who was born in Washington, D. C., won first- or second-team All-NFL honors nine times in a nine-year stretch from 1962 through the 1970 season. A Pro Bowl participant eight times, 1963, 1965 through 1971, Wood also played in six NFL championship games. The Packers won all but the first one in 1960. Willie also was the starting free safety for Green Bay in Super Bowl I against the Kansas City Chiefs and Super Bowl II against the Oakland Raiders. His 50-yard interception return of a Len Dawson pass early in the third quarter of Super Bowl I broke open a close contest and paved the way for the Packers’ 35-10 triumph over the Chiefs. Like many Packers who had a chance to handle the football, Wood compiled impressive statistics with 48 career interceptions, which he returned for 699 yards and two touchdowns. He won the NFL interception title in 1962 with nine steals. Doubling on the punt return team, Willie also won the league punt return championship with a 16.1-yard average in 1961. In 12 years, he carried back 187 punts for 1,391 yards and two touchdowns. In 1989 he was awarded the ULTIMATE Award for a NFL Player and that was enshrinement into the NFL Hall of Fame. This ring I am selling this week was the exact ring that Wood was presented to and was owned by Mr. Wood. Consider that in any given year the super bowl winner will give out 200 to 300 Super Bowl Rings and you don’t have to have played in the super bowl to have a or get a Super Bowl Ring. Every year this happens. There are plenty of Players who get rings wont ever sniff the NFL Hall of Fame. Players like Dan Marino and Bruce Smith and Jim Kelly although have played in super bowls never got the winning Super Bowl Ring. There are players who get a Super Bowl Ring who never ever played a single down in a season. Still they get a shinny ring. To get a NFL HOF ring you have to be the Best of the Best. Willie Wood actually was one of these fortunate players who can say he won multiple Super Bowls and been awarded a NFL HOF Ring. These rings are truly special. Don’t get me wrong the Super Bowl Ring is highly desirable but this ring I am selling is 100 times rarer than any super bowl ring. In any given year there maybe between 3 to 6 people who are awarded HOF Rings. This is by far Rarer than the Super Bowl Ring. The HOF Ring is the culmination and continues excellence of a whole entire career not just one season. These Rings don’t come up for sale very often. One more thing that makes this Ring so special it belonged to a player from one of the iconic and legendary NFL Teams of all Time the Famed Green Bay Packers. Outside of the 26 players that the Chicago Bears has produced the Packers are in 2nd place with 21 Players in the NFL with Bret Favre who will be there as a Packer no doubt 5 years after he retires. This is truly a once in a Lifetime opportunity to own a ring like this. This ring was once offered for sale by the famed Leland’s Auction House in December of 2003 and was won by a noteworthy Green Bay Packer Collector. I have obtained this ring directly from this well known Packer Collector. I have a signed letter of auth from this person stating this was Willie Woods’s actual ring. A copy of this letter will also come with this 1989 HOF Ring. Since I did not obtain this ring directly from Mr. Woods I had contacted an Executive with the NFL Hall of Fame in Canton, OH and he had VERIFIED that the ring I now possess looks exactly like what Willies Woods actual Original NFL HOF Ring would have looked like when he was issued this Ring in 1989. He also confirmed to me that the NFL started in 1998 and changed the ring so that the newer inductees now get a ring that has a blue stone with a single diamond in the center. So again this Executive with the NFL Hall of Fame verified that the ring I have is correct for the time period that the ring was issued out by the NFL and looks to be the ring that Willie was originally awarded in 1989. . This is a 10 Karat Yellow Gold Ring was made by the L.G. Balfour Ring Company. The front of the ring has Pro Football’s Hall of Fame. There is a blue stone in the center with a Football player outlined in white on the blue stone. On one side it has the name of WOOD at the top and under that is 3 Football players and Elected1989 on top of a shield at the bottom. The other side has SAFTEY which represents Willie Woods Position. Below that is the front of the Canton Hall of Fame Building and under that is shield with Hall of Fame on it. The Ring is a size 11 ½ and weighs at 32.3 grams of 10K Yellow Gold. Inside of the ring it is engraved the “Proper Manufacture Markings” this being LGB 10K which stands for the L.G. Balfour Ring Company. This Ring was verified and confirmed by the NFL HOF in Canton Ohio as what Willie Woods Actual Ring would have and should look like when he was given this ring back in 1989. Since 1998 the NFL HOF Rings are now issued a Diamond on top of the blue stone instead of the White Football Player on the blue stone. This Ultra Rare Ring will also come with a Letter of Authenticity from “Championship Sports Rings” which is one of the most respected sources for Authentic Rings in the country. To date I have never sold a Fake Championship Ring or ever had a complaint for selling such a ring.
