Welcome to  Antiques & Moore!

This listing is for a rare early 19th Century French Eglomise & Basse-Taille decoration on the front and a faux pocket watch on reverse.

Very unusual locket fro the early 1800's with Eglomise (painting under glass) center front surrounded by Emil de basse-taille border with gold floral designs on black enamel background.

The reverse of the locket is decorated with a faux watch face protected with bevelled glass cover. The locket is made in the shape of a pocket watch although this piece has always been a locket. It has a fitted fabric interior possibly to hold a locket of hair.

Beveled glass cover also protects the front so the gold basse-taille decoration and the eglomise painting remains sharp and in perfect condition after 200 years. Some no-harm faint slightly cloudy areas which we believe may be air pockets over the black enameling border under the glass.

The mounting appears to be brass or possibly low karat English gold with original patina and fitted fabric interior also in great condition commensurate with age.

Measures 2" long (including "stem") and 1 1/4" in diameter.
