Star Ingredients

Prebiotics
Prebiotics and probiotics have been referred to as " The Imminent Revolution in Skincare". Prebiotics are so important because they encourage the growth of probiotics, good bacteria which make the skin less hospitable for harmful bacteria to survive. Probiotics and prebiotics help the skin balance the level of bacteria, which eliminate the bad ones that cause skin disorders, acne and eczema.
Two studies that have demonstrated that prebiotic and probiotic products actually influence the appearance of the skin. One was published in the British Journal of Dermatology and showed that eczema improved when patients were treated with a prebiotic cream, and the other appeared in the Journal of Dermatological Science and demonstrated that the levels of bacteria causing acne could be lowered with prebiotics without influencing the levels of the good bacteria.
Prebiotics also play an essential role in keeping the skin young. When the balance of microflora is damaged, the skin becomes irritated. The body responds to this irritation by creating free radicals, thought to play a part in premature aging of the skin, and a collagen-digesting enzyme. Given that collagen is essential to young-looking skin, the last thing you want is to destroy it.
Unica uses a natural prebiotic for the skin, derived partly from one of the constituents of the chicory root, namely inulin, and partly from the natural sugars that result from an enzymatic process.

Rosehip oil
As well as being one of the best anti-wrinkle oils available today, Rosehip oil is excellent for treating sensitive and oily skin, skin with large pores as well as helping to treat all kinds of skin infections. Rosehip is amongst the best vegetable oil source of omega 3 and is also a good source of omega 6, involved in cellular membrane and tissue regeneration and normalising skin with large pores. Rosehip oil also helps to reduce pigmentation and raised scar tissue, even on non-recent scars, and can be used to treat skin damaged, marked or scarred by: · Surgery · Minor burns · Stretch marks · Acne · Sun exposure.

Tamanu oil
If there is such a thing as miracle oil, Tamanu oil is THE miracle oil. Tamanu oil is an excellent example of a traditional remedy which has come to broader attention due to a combination of effective use in traditional setting and scientific research corroborating its benefits.
Tamanu oil is found in the kernel, within the nut of Tamanu fruit. The fruit is most commonly found growing in Tahiti, but it can also be found in other tropical climates. The Tamanu nut is a botanical oddity. When the fruits are collected and cracked open, the blond nut kernel inside contains no apparent oil. But when the kernel dries on a rack for a month or so, it turns a deep, chocolate brown, and becomes sticky with a rich, pleasant smelling oil. Using a simple screw press, the oil is squeezed from the dark kernels. The resulting oil of Tamanu is dark green and luxurious. Though Tamanu oil is thick and rich, once it is applied to skin it is readily and completely absorbed, leaving no oily residue. Since the tree only blossoms twice a year, and it takes 100 kilograms of the fruit to yield 5 kg of this precious commodity, Tamanu oil is not cheap. But, the benefits far outweigh the time and expense of manufacturing this miracle skin care and skin repair oil.
Tamanu oil is an outstanding topical healing agent with general skin healing actions. It has remarkable antineuralgic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antibiotic, antioxidant, and anti-aging properties.
Given Tamanu oil’s unique ability to promote the growth of new, healthy skin tissue and considering its protective properties in cases of overexposure to the sun’s rays, and the fact that about 75% of premature aging of the skin is caused by UV radiation from the sun, one can understand the powerful anti-aging properties of this miracle oil.
In Europe, sometimes called Domba oil, it has a 70 to 75% success rate in alleviating rheumatism and scabies. It is also effective on gout and ringworm. It heals chapped skin, post-surgical wounds, cracked skin, bed sores, rashes, athlete’s foot, boils, and infected nails. Tamanu oils can also help acne sufferers. Topically administered, Tamanu oil can assist in the growth of healthy, younger looking skin, and the elimination of acne. The skin healing aspects of Tamanu oil can also help those that suffer from the worst forms of eczema and psoriasis.
Tamanu oil has demonstrated significant benefits in hospital setting as treatment of severe burns caused by boiling water, chemicals and x-rays. Its pain-relieving properties have also been used traditionally to relieve neuralgia, shingles and even leprous neuritis. In 1928 sister Marie-Suzanne, a missionary num of the Society of Mary stationed in Fiji, tested Tamanu’s medicinal properties and used it affectively to treat leprosy.

Andiroba oil
Andiroba oil is processed from the nuts of the Carapa guianensis tree, found in the Brazilian Amazon. It possess analgesic, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, the latter being attributed to the presence of a group of chemicals called limonoids, one of which is andirobin. Andiroba oil is s a rich source of essential fatty acids including oleic, palmitic, and linoleic acids, which aid cell regeneration and help reduce pigmentation marks and it is used in many Brazilian cities as a topical remedy to alleviate skin irritations, to help ease joint pain, arthritis and rheumatism and to accelerate wound healing. It is very moisturizing and conditioning to both skin and hair.

Capaiba Oil
Pure copaiba oil is the pure resin tapped from the Copaifera officinalis tree in certified copaiba fields in the Brazilian Amazon and is a deep brown colour. It has potent anti-oxidant properties and also soothes dry, oily and combination skin.
Copaiba oil contains a significant amount of kaurenoic acid, which has been shown to possess anti-inflammatory, smooth muscle relaxant and antimicrobial properties. It also contains a high percentage of caryophyllene, which has been documented to have anti-inflammatory benefits. Curanderos in the Amazon today use Copaiba oil to treat soft tissue injuries and joint pain to reduce inflammation. In North America, research has shown Copaiba oil to have pain relieving properties and it has been proven to be effective in many cases, such as muscle strain, tendonitis and certain types of arthritis.

Jojoba oil
Jojoba oil is a must in the treatment of acne and oily skin because it “tricks” the skin into stopping the over-production of sebum through somehow mimicking sebum and also assisting in the breakdown of sebum in plugged-up pores. Sebum and jojoba oil mix readily without sealing off the skin pores. In short, jojoba oil helps to balance sebum in all skin types, helping to moisturize dry skin in some people or balancing the over-abundance of oil in others. it is also a great oil for sensitive skin, which has been used to treat eczema and psoriasis with good results.

Hemp oil
Hemp oil is a very dry and mild oil, excellent for the treatment of oily skin. Apart from its excellent cleansing and moisturizing properties, Hemp seed oil has a well balanced ration of 3:1 of Omega 6 and 3 Essential Fatty Acid respectively. It is the presence of these Essential Fatty Acids in this particular ratio that helps improve skin condition such as eczema, psoriasis & acne. It is also a rich source of Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) hich helps to treat a number of conditions.

Tea Tree essential oil
The Aborigines have been using this indigenous Australian tree in their medications for centuries and today tea tree is the subject of a great deal of international research. Its impressive anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties make it useful in a wide range of conditions. When used in products for oily skin, Tee Tree oil dissolves skin oils and kills bacteria.
