Complete Heavy Duty Horse Drawn Dray Wagon - 1:24 Scale Modeling Plan-Set Spiral Bound Booklet by Jack L Winegar

Drays are the strongest type of commercial freight wagons pulled by a team of draft animals. Generally they were used in and around the “big city" to haul heavy loads well into the 1920's and beyond. Floors were flat with smaller wheels than a Farm Wagon for easy lower loading of large machinery and parts and even a casket if no hearse was available. The Pullman Railroad Car Co. used Drays to move wheel sets and other Pullman Car parts. This design is a model of a ten-ton capacity Dray with a full-circle fifth-wheel which provided greater maneuverability within crowded city streets.

Plan-Set includes a material lists  to build this detailed wagon with metal and wood parts just as they were built a 100 years ago. Different style stakes, a turning seat, single horse and double horse options are included. All details are shown full scale and can be used as templates for reproducing in other scales. All detail parts are dimensioned.

10 pages of construction recommendations.

Depending on your modeling skills:

Some illustrations that are shown here on eBay are poor resolution "screen shots" others are photographs of the actual plans. They do not show the actual contrast with the high quality drawing paper of the Plan-Set you are purchasing. I repeat, these illustrations do not adequately reflect the actual quality and sharpness of the actual printed drawings.

These drawings are drawn in CAD with color illustrations to make building the model "easier". All the information you will need to build a detailed Dray Wagon model.

This Plan-Set includes nine (9) folded 13" x 19" super B size, twenty-four (24) 9-½ʺ x 13" super A sheets for 1:24 (½ʺ) scale plans for constructing a Dray Wagon. Material lists with suggested manufacturers are include.

Super B (13" x 19") foldout Plan-Set sheets include:

This Plan-Set is designed for large scale modelers, however, there is a rich source of information for anyone interested in how a horse drawn Dray wagon was built 100 years ago.

This Dray Wagon is being offered and drawn in CAD at 1:24 scale, which has a scale name of “Half Inch.” In other words 1 inch of a model equals 24 inches full (real) scale. A Scale Conversion Chart is included which lists the factors for converting 1:24 scale dimensions to popular scales from 1:8 to 1:220 for measurements or when making copies of our drawings printed at a different 1:1 scale. Admittedly constructing this wagon in the small scales would be a formidable task.

Well designed CAD drawings can be increased and reduced in size legibly with any good copy machine, as compared to blue prints. Line quality is good between a reduction to 11% (Z scale) to an increase to 283% (Gn15 scale). You can almost read the text in drawings that are reduced to 11% with a magnifying glass.

CAD printed drawings have the advantage over traditional blue prints because of the fact that details are more easily identified when printed in different line weight colors and since there is no confusing hand lettering.

Plans are designed and drawn in CAD with 3-D renderings and printed in color with a professional graphic printer.  Line quality is good between a reduction of 11% (Z scale) to an increase to 283% (Gn15 scale). You can almost read the text in drawings that are reduced to 11% with a magnifying glass.

Drawings are printed on 70lb acid-free/ECF-Free paper (complying with sustainable Forest Management procedures).

These plans are offered by the Vilas County Lumber Co. which also has more than 100 other Plan-Sets such as bridges, several depots, single stall engine house, grain elevators, barges and car floats, wagons, sheds, trestles, a tunnel portal, sawmill and shingle mill buildings.

Plan-Sets are sold for the non-commercial use by the purchaser only. The purchaser may build as many models as they desire for their own personal use.
