THIS LISTING IS FOR A WONDERFUL LATE 19th CENTURY FRENCH PATINATED BRONZE SCULPTURE OF A YOUNG HENRY IV CARRYING A SWORD.

FINE FRENCH BRONZE FIGURE WITH INTRICATE DETAILS AND HIGH QUALITY WORKMANSHIP.  THIS BRONZE WAS DONE AFTER BOSIO AS IT IS NOT SIGNED NOR DOES IT HAVE THE ORIGINAL FOUNDRY STAMP BUT IS AN EXCELLENT CASTING OF A YOUNG HENRY IV, THE FIRST OF THE FRENCH BOURBON KINGS. ORIGINALLY SCULPTED BY ARTIST FRANCOIS JOSEPH BOSIO (1768-1845). HENRY IV IS CONSIDERED TO BE THE MOST POPULAR FRENCH KING IN HISTORY DUE IN PART TO HIS CONCERN FOR THE COMMON PEOPLE. OVER FOUR CENTURIES, THE ARTIST BOSIO ENJOYED THE PATRONAGE OF THE BONAPARTES AS WELL AS THE BOURBONS AND LOUIS PHILIPPE. HE RANKS AS THE MOST HIGHLY DECORATED SCULPTOR OF HIS GENERATION AND IS ESPECIALLY KNOWN FOR THE QUADRIGA ATOP THE ARC DE TRIOMPHE DUE CARROUSEL.

 THE SCULPTURE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH NO NOTED DAMAGE, ALTHOUGH THE BASE SITS SLIGHTLY OFF LEVEL AT FRONT RIGHT (SEE PHOTOS). NO OTHER NOTED FLAWS. 

MEASURES 12 3/4" TALL WITH THE BASE BEING 4" SQUARE. WEIGHS 5.10 POUNDS.

 THIS NICE BRONZE DATES TO THE LATE 19TH CENTURY AND IS A STUNNING FIGURE THAT IS COMPLETELY ORIGINAL WITH NO RESTORATION.
