THIS LISTING IS FOR A STUNNING ANTIQUE MEIJI PERIOD JAPANESE SATSUMA PORCELAIN ENAMELED SMALL VASE, c. 1868-1912.

THIS GORGEOUS VASE IS BEAUTIFULLY HAND ENAMELED WITH POLYCHROME ENAMELS AND GOLD.  DECORATED WITH FINE INTRICATE DETAILS FEATURING COLOFUL FLOWERS, BAMBOO TREE, WATERFALL AND PHEASANT WITH GILDED OVERLAY. SCALLOPED UPPER EDGE WITH GILT RIM.  STYLIZED "ELEPHANT" SIDE HANDLES.

  MEASURES 6" HIGH WITH A TOP DIAMETER OF 2", MAXIMUM WIDTH OF 3" AND THE BASE IS 1 1/2" IN DIAMETER. 

 THE CONDITION IS EXCELLENT WITH NO CHIPS, CRACKS OR REPAIRS. THE ENAMELING AND GILDING ARE  ALSO IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. MINOR RUBBING TO THE GILDED UPPER EDGE.

SIGNED IN JAPANESE SCRIPT ON BASE WITH "MON" MARK, MAKER UNIDENTIFIED.

SATSUMA POTTERY IS A YELLOWISH EARTHENWARE USUALLY DECORATED WITH DETAILED JAPANESE FIGURES WITH EXPRESSIVE FACIAL FEATURES.

 THIS WARE WAS GENERALLY CREATED FOR THE EXPORT MARKET OF THE MID-19th CENTURY TO CATER TO WESTERN MARKETS. MOST OF THE BETTER QUALITY PIECES WERE MARKED BY ARTIST STUDIOS.
