Sounds of Trains

Highlights From Diverging Clear CD Releases

From the many CDs released by Diverging Clear Productions, this sampling gives a wide range of the sounds of the railroad scene. Sounds include Frisco 1522 blasting up Iron Hill near St. Clair, Missouri, to a pair of Metra commuter trains meeting at a combined speed of 120 miles per hour directly in front of the microphones.

Some audio fakery for dramatic effect is also heard. Meets between steam locomotives were arranged in the edit room, along with a freight train led up Rolla Hill by a simulated steam doubleheader. We’ve also arranged a meet between a Union Pacific coal train and Amtrak’s City of New Orleans.

Other highlights include Amtrak’s Illini passing through a small town at track speed on a rainy night, and first generation diesels hauling passengers to and from the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis. The echo effects as the sound of the F-unit’s horn bouncing off buildings near a quiet residential subdivision at 10:00 p.m. makes it sound for an instant like two trains are approaching.

If you love the sounds of trains, put this CD on in a quiet room, better yet with a set of good headphones in a quiet room, and enjoy!
