Roger Brand edited two issues of Real Pulp Comics and issue one in particular has some historical significance in the history of underground comix.

First of all, issue number one contains the first story by Bill Griffith featuring his new character creation, Zippy The Pinhead. Titled "I Gave My Heart To A Pinhead And He Made A Fool Out Of Me!," Griffith answered Brand's request for a romance story starring a weird character with Zippy, based on a character from the film, "Freaks." The rest shall we say is history as Zippy's popularity grew throughout pop culture over the next decades.

Secondly, comix history was made as Brand gave a chance to a young cartoonist who worked at the Topps company named Art Spiegelman by publishing chapters of his story "The Viper" in both issues of Real Pulp Comics.

Also in Issue #1 are Joel Beck, Roger Brand, Leslie Cabarga, Kim Deitch, Justine Green, Ron White, and S. Clay Wilson, who contributes a great motorcycle gang / Checkered Demon story but for some reason is not credited on the copyright line on the inside front cover.

Issue two of Real Pulp Comics was published two years later by Brand in 1973 and features work by Leslie Cabarga, Charles Dallas, Will Fowler, Bill Griffith, Art Spiegelman ("The Viper"), S. Clay Wilson, and Roger Brand.

Issue #1 is in very good+ condition. There is light spine wear and some color fading along the top front cover edge. There is a 2-inch crease along the spine bottom panel on the back cover. The pages are tan along the edges. No serious wear but some general wear for a 45-year old comic. A first printing. Fifty cents cover price.

Issue #2 is in good condition with a few condition issues but is a great reading copy. The front cover is in fine condition. The bottom 1/2" of the back cover is folded and creased and the last four pages of the book has small chips and creases in the bottom margins of the pages, not affecting the panels of artwork. The interior pages are slightly tan. A first printing with an original fifty cents cover price, this copy has a red and white 60 cents price sticker covering the word "fifty."
