The Shipwreck Print

This beautiful print contains over 500 shipwrecks along the Florida Keys and is one of the most comprehensive shipwreck charts out on the market.  Shown in great detail are the Keys, reefs, lighthouses, and water depth contours.  The chart is 36" x 24", a perfect size for framing (fits a standard poster frame) and is printed on 80lb extra gloss paper - extra thick paper, not poster paper.  The Florida Keys extend to the Dry Tortugas, and the unique inset shows the Marquesas Keys to the Dry Tortugas, a first for charts of this kind.  Thirty three stories are featured on the chart that describe how the most interesting and famous shipwrecks occurred including the Atocha, Valbanerra, El Capitana, and Spiegel Grove.  Read below about the El Capitana, just one of the famous wrecks featured...

"This 60-gun galleon, named Capitani Rubi Segundo carrying the King's treasure, was one of the 15 ships that were driven onto the reefs of the keys by the 1733 hurricane.  All passengers and crew survived.  Within ten days, salvage operations started, and divers recovered much of the copper, gold, silver, and gold coins onboard.  In 1938, a commercial fisherman spotted cannons on the bottom and told his friend, Art McKee about them.  Art and his friends began diving the wreck, and over the next 10 years, they recovered cannons, silver coins, statues, candlesticks, religious metals, and other artifacts.  Salvage methods included explosives which scattered the wreck.  By the 1980s the wreck was almost completely buried in the sand."
